Pioneer Insurance is a locally owned business. It is located in the small town Fort Benton, MT. Fort Benton is a historic town known as the Birthplace of Montana.
Fort Benton is home to the historic Grand Union Hotel. This hotel was built in 1882, and it was restored in 1999.

Shep is also part of Fort Benton's history. Shep was a sheepdog whose sheepherder became ill and died. The man's body was taken back east to be buried by train. Each day for five-and-one-half years the loyal Shep came back to the railroad anxiously awaiting his sheepherder's return. Shep was an older dog and one winter day failed to hear the engine and was hit. Shep was buried in Fort Benton on a bluff overlooking the railroad.

Fort Benton is located on the Missouri River. Lewis and Clark floated through Fort Benton when they were exploring the west. This river played a strong role in making Fort Benton such a historic town. The Missouri River allowed Fort Benton to become a trading post as steamboats came through Fort Benton.
